Check account and app permissions

Identify the Instagram account that owns the posts and the store account that can install apps. Those may be held by distinct people. Use the official approval flow rather than sharing passwords or putting tokens into theme code.

Read the current account rules of the chosen app. Instagram connection routes have changed over time. An old personal-account tutorial is not evidence that the current app supports that route.

Check the publisher and requested Shopify access. A feed task may need social content and theme placement; any wider data access deserves a clear reason. Do not assume every app with “Instagram” in its title is operated by Meta or Shopify.

Add an Instagram feed to Shopify: choose the route

Elfsight is a hosted feed candidate with current Instagram feed help. Other app listings should be checked through Shopify's official marketplace and the named vendor's current guide. Compare the real display task, limits and account connection.

Separate an ongoing free plan from a trial. Inspect views, branding, post types and refresh rules for the exact app. Leave any unchecked figure open rather than presenting a generic unlimited feed.

Use the social media widget reference if you only need a profile link or a single post. A full feed may be unnecessary for a small page with one clear social entrance.

Connect the intended account

Follow the vendor's current account connection steps. Confirm the profile name after approval. Check the source account. An installer may have access to several profiles. The feed needs the one this store represents.

Review the permissions and record who can renew the connection later. A changed password or permission can affect a feed. The store owner needs an upkeep route after a contractor finishes the first setup.

Add the Instagram feed to Shopify's theme

Shopify's current theme app guidance distinguishes app blocks and app embeds. Use the placement documented for the chosen app and supported by the theme. Do not paste duplicate code into a separate theme area without a reason.

Keep a copy of the previous theme setup. Add the feed to a suitable page section and publish through the normal theme controls. A social display should support the store's main task rather than cover product or cart controls.

If the vendor uses a code route, verify the supported location and plan rules. Keep credentials out of public markup. A widget identifier is distinct from a private access token.

Check loading, mobile and attribution

Open the live storefront while signed out. Confirm the source account, expected posts and post links. Allow for the vendor's documented refresh behavior instead of assuming each new post appears at once.

Check a phone layout and keyboard access. Captions and controls should remain readable. A popup should have a usable close control and return focus to the page.

Keep attribution and source links required by the route. Do not copy images into the store to imitate a feed when the connection fails. A plain profile link provides a more honest fallback.

Reconnect or remove safely

When the feed stops, check the app first. Look for a connection error or plan limit. If its data is current, inspect the theme display. Check the live page separately from the editor. Repair the known layer rather than installing another feed on top.

To remove it, disable the recorded block, embed or snippet and inspect the live storefront. Disconnect the vendor through its supported controls if needed. Handle an app plan separately from its visible placement.

For the wider installation logic, see embedding an Instagram feed. For a WordPress site, use the WordPress feed guide rather than applying Shopify theme steps.

Keep shopping claims separate

A visible feed does not prove that product tags or checkout links are connected. Check any shoppable feature as its own supported task.

Inspect the product page placement

If the feed appears beside products, open a long caption and close it on a phone. The cart control should remain reachable. Then follow one source link and check the store's intended profile. A feed that looks right on the home page can still crowd the purchase path in a narrower product template.

Continue with the right task

FAQ

Does connecting the app prove the feed is on the live theme?

No. Account connection and theme placement are separate steps. Save through the supported theme route, then open the public storefront while signed out. Confirm the intended profile and a source link, including on a product template if the display appears there.

Should I install a second app when posts are stale?

First inspect the current app, source account and displayed error. Compare the app view with the public theme. A connection, quota or publication issue needs its own repair. A second install can leave duplicate scripts while the first fault remains unresolved.
