Yelp review widget: permitted display routes in 2026

Use a normal business-profile link when the desired display cannot be established. The source route and attribution matter more than making the widget resemble another review product.
What Yelp review widget routes are currently permitted?
Yelp's official sharing and embedding help describes direct links to reviews and photos and embedding a recommended review. It places the Embed review option on a business page at Yelp.com. The mobile app and Yelp for Business use different interfaces.
That is an exact supported action. It does not prove a blanket licence to scrape, store and republish every review. Use the current source control and its terms for the item you want to display.
Confirm the business and chosen review. Check the branch as well as the name. Changing your website heading will not correct a review about the wrong location. Keep source explicit.
Official and third-party display routes
| Route | Evidence needed | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Official review embed | Eligible recommended review and current embed control | A selected item, not a complete live archive |
| Normal profile link | Correct public business destination | Opens the source instead of displaying a panel |
| Hosted provider | Current supported Yelp source and terms | Provider feature claims need the source permission checked |
| Custom API display | Current approved API route and display requirements | Technical and licensing scope must be established |
Elfsight and EmbedSocial list review-display services. A catalogue label alone does not prove the right to display a Yelp record. Inspect the exact current Yelp route, source and terms before relying on a third-party display.
A product that supports Google reviews does not by itself support Yelp under the same rules. Keep the network-exact decision separate. An “all-in-one” description is not evidence that every public review may be copied.
Attribution and data limits
Retain the source elements supplied or required by the permitted route. A user should know that the opinion came from Yelp and should have a useful way to reach it. Do not crop away context to make the review seem like an original website testimonial.
Describe selection honestly. A chosen recommended review is one item, not proof that the page displays all opinions. Avoid a heading that turns a chosen positive example into an implied complete rating record.
For a custom API route, read the current Yelp developer rules for the real product and account. Review counts, caching rules and API access depend on the exact product and account. Read those requirements before building a custom integration; an old embed tutorial does not establish your API allowance.
Do not store a screenshot or copied text as an unlabelled replacement for an unavailable live display. Rights and freshness do not disappear when the content becomes a local file. A plain source link is an honest alternative.
Embed a Yelp review widget or use a profile-link fallback
Use the official control when eligible
Open the correct business page on Yelp.com and locate the planned recommended review. If Yelp offers an Embed review control for that review, use it. Copy the generated code for that item rather than another website's version.
Follow the current official instructions and keep the required markup intact. A missing control can mean the chosen route is not available for that item or context. Do not work around it by scraping the page.
Confirm website support
Check whether your website platform permits the supplied frame or script. Hosted plans can restrict code even when a basic HTML block exists. Use a supported placement and keep the previous page setup for rollback.
Place the review where its context is useful. A chosen opinion should support the page rather than cover its main action. Keep normal business facts and contact details outside the display.
Keep a normal source link
Provide a clearly labelled link to the business's Yelp profile or the chosen source item. That route remains useful when an embed is blocked. Verify the destination rather than using a generic Yelp search result.
If the desired vendor route cannot be established, use the link as the full setup. It does not pretend the website maintains a current review feed. Simpler can be more accurate when permissions or support are unclear.
Verify the published page
Open the page while signed out. Confirm the correct business, chosen review and source link. A successful editor preview does not prove that users can load the external code.
On a phone, read the review and attribution without sideways scrolling. Check the controls with a keyboard. If a popup is used, inspect closing and focus return so the display does not trap the user.
Review the real external loading and the site's privacy explanation. Keep a source-link fallback when the widget is blocked or declined. Essential service details should remain readable as normal page content.
If a display is stale or missing, compare the source, vendor account and live page. Identify the layer before changing code. Do not claim a Yelp-wide outage from one failed embed without dated official evidence.
Corrections and removal
If the wrong business is displayed, correct the connection or chosen source. If the content of a review is disputed, use Yelp's supported reporting route. Do not silently rewrite another person's opinion on your website.
When retiring an embed, remove the known placement and inspect the live page. A separate site-wide script may remain if it serves another supported display. Understand the recorded installation before removing shared code.
Handle a third-party vendor account or plan separately. Removing page code does not prove billing ended or stored data was removed. Preserve any needed business record through the supported process.
Limitations and alternatives
A Yelp display does not guarantee increased sales or search-result stars. It does not prove that every review is verified or shown. The useful job is to present the permitted source clearly and keep the page honest about selection.
Use the review widget reference to compare sources. Use the Google review guide or Trustpilot guide for their separate routes. Do not combine permissions across networks.
For private website reports, choose a feedback widget instead. A private complaint or suggestion should not become a public Yelp review by implication.
Read the selected review at its source
Before placing an item, open it at the source and read the full context. Confirm the business and location. A chosen review should not be made to speak for a distinct service or branch.
Keep the source link after installation and check it from the public page. If the item is no longer eligible for the supported display, use the current source route or a normal profile link. Do not preserve a local copied version while implying it is still a live Yelp embed.
This check is small but useful. It ties the page to the opinion that was written. A star graphic or quote with no source loses that link.
Keep the source route current
Include the destination in the maintenance checklist for each branch. After a location closes, check both the visible business name and the linked profile; changing a heading alone can leave readers opening the wrong listing.
Recheck the source link after a business move or listing change. A correct link today can become the wrong location later. The widget should follow the real source, not just keep an old graphic in place.
Keep context beside a selected review
Read the review in its source before choosing it for a page. A short extract can lose a condition that matters to its meaning. If the supported embed presents that context, retain it. If the only permitted route is a source link, label the link clearly and let the reader see the original record there.
Preserve the original business context
Before selecting a review, compare the business name and location with the page where it will appear. Reviews for another branch should not be presented as opinions about this location simply because the company shares a brand.

FAQ
Can I embed any review from the app?
Yelp's current help describes the Embed review control for recommended reviews on a business page at Yelp.com. It distinguishes that from its mobile and business interfaces. Use the current official control for the allowed item rather than assuming every app screen offers the same route.
Does a hosted widget authorise scraping?
A vendor's feature claim is not a universal licence. Inspect its current supported source and the applicable Yelp rules. If the permission or route is not established, use a normal source link. Do not copy a review collection to simulate an approved live feed.
Can I show a selected positive review?
Use only the source's permitted display route and preserve required context and attribution. Make clear that it is a chosen item rather than the whole review record. Do not silently alter the opinion or imply that the display proves every user had the same experience.
